报告内容简介： Why academia needs a change of pedagogy? The industry expectations on engineering graduates are foremost being an evolving revolution. Is academic learning and teaching is realising and fulfiling those expectations? The students have the responsibility to be career focused and engineering competent for future societal needs. There is always a gap exists between the industry, academics, students perceptions and expectations. Therefore a shift from traditional teaching to design based learning approach is needed to fulfil this gap. Design based learning is a combination of problem based learning and project based learning approaches. With the State of Art – Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering and Training (CADET) facility, The School of Engineering at Deakin University aims to implement project-oriented design based learning (PODBL) approach for all engineering disciplines. The focus is to motivate students to be self-directed, design focused problem solvers through outcome based, research based and collaborative learning.
报告人简介： Dr Siva Chandrasekaran - Dr. Siva Chandrasekaran is a Research Fellow in Engineering Education at Deakin University. He has graduated his BE (CSE) in India and ME, MES (Electronics/ Computer Systems) from Victoria University and PhD (Engineering Education) from Deakin University respectively. He is active member of Deakin engineering education research Centre (DEERC), School of engineering in the Faculty of science, Engineering and Built Environment at Deakin University. Siva is an active researcher and his research interests include creativity & innovation in learning and teaching, Design based learning, Cloud learning & located learning and global engineering education. His education philosophy is founded on the Project Oriented Design Based Learning (PODBL) approach at Deakin University.
